A Review of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

The way to keep minorities away from conflict is to keep them in a constant state of happiness. By creating an artificial happiness for them, and thus preventing them face the traumatic reality,  you can rule a community for a long time.

The entrance of mass media into human life has led to the loss of the importance of the books that make people to question things. So people were trapped into illusionist happiness. This fiction world is described as "dystopian".

Today this "dystopian" world became a fact in many ways. The more we read, the more we realize that we are living in that world. Reading is become more diffucult as technological developments make people more lazy. In such society, most of them have no idea about Magna Carta or Constitution. Moreover, maybe, they have no idea about their rights. They don't care, actually. The only thing they care about is 'how many televions more do they need to purchase' or 'what should they watch tonight.'

A television tells you HOW you should think. It impress the idea on you as if it's yours. On the other hand, a book gives an information from different perspectives. You need some time to absorb. But in this world, these people don't have any free time. Because this is how the society is shaped. People do not THINK in this world. They watch the reality created for them, instead.

As a matter of fact, the number of television they have determinate the status in this fictional society. When we return to the real world, the possessed goods determine the status. We live in the soft version of this fiction world where the technology causes human laziness. The important thing is not what you USE, but what you KNOW. Do not make conspicuous consumption, invest on yourself instead, folks.
